You'll need references, so find something with lots of facts and that you can break it down so the audience can absorb it...you'll feel more comfortable presenting it. I believe if you pick topics that you are somewhat familiar with, speaking about it will be "easier." I love to cook, garden, craft, sports, etc., so for my speech topic, I will either speak about the art of making yeast bread(and bring in some "visuals" of warm loaves) or how to decoupage(craft). Both topics I partake of and I will actually find joy in researching. If you play sports, have a certain hobby, speak a foreign language...the topics are endless! Don't forget some form of visuals, too. Powerpoint or something tangible that the audience can view. Finally, practice, practice, practice! Don't wait until the night before to work on your speech! It will come across to the audience as just that. Take a deep breath, good luck and have fun! I think writing about anything that can be researched is a great topic.
